Mark Bonney is based in London and performs internationally. Recent appearances include the Evangelist in Bach’s St. Matthew Passion & St. John Passion (Florilegium Musicum & Westerkerk, Amsterdam), tenor soloist in Bach's St. Matthew Passion (Nieuwe Philharmonie Utrecht), tenor soloist in Monteverdi's Vespro della Beata Vergine, 1610 (Nieuw Bach Ensemble), tenor soloist in Handel's Messiah (American Bach Soloists), Tamino in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte (Berlin Opera Academy) and Jonathan in Handel’s Saul with Laurence Cummings (Dartington International Festival).
In addition to his work as an opera and concert soloist, Mark is often invited to perform with leading ensembles including the Chor des Bayerischen Rundfunks, Gabrieli Consort, Britten Sinfonia, Le Concert d’Astrée and the Monteverdi Choir. He recently performed in the Choir for the Coronation of King Charles III at Westminster Abbey, and was also a member of the chorus at Grange Park Opera, Opera Holland Park, Wexford Festival Opera, and at the Aldeburgh Festival.
Before embarking on his career as a classical singer, Mark worked in socio-economic development in Egypt around the time of the Arab Spring. He holds a Masters in Opera from the Royal Conservatoire in Scotland, a Masters in Music from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, and a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Stanford University. He also studied at the Berlin Opera Academy, the Franz Schubert Institute and the American Institute of Musical Studies.
